Maintaining modern and historic buildings at UCL

IMG_1238The Aston Group is working with the University College London to maintain a portfolio of buildings some of which date back to the 1850’s. Andrew Pinder, an engineer in the UCL estates and facilities, says: “Some of our buildings are very old and sometimes you don’t know what’s behind the wall until you take it down.”

Aston has developed a particular reputation for its knowledge of water hygiene works, upgrading systems to be fit and proper for the 21st century. It completed its first water hygiene upgrade at the university’s Rockefeller Building.

Aston Group takes plumbing to new heights

Ascham Homes Logo - NEW (JPEG)Ascham Homes, the Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) which manages homes on behalf of Waltham Forest Council, chose The Aston Group, the leading building services and facilities management company, to complete a major overhaul of the cold water systems at two 11-storey housing blocks in the East End.

Rayner Towers and Burrell Towers, in Albany Road, were previously served by water tanks on the roof of each building that were more than 40-years old, considered ‘end of life’ and no longer maintainable.

Aston Group appoints new quantity surveyor

QDAPR15AstonAston Group has further strengthened its team with the appointment of Andrea Truccas as an Estimator and Quantity Surveyor, reporting directly to the Managing Director, Alan Thomas.

Andrea trained as a Quantity Surveyor after moving to the UK from Italy and has gained extensive experience working on a variety of projects, engaging with both main contractors and specialists sub-contractors.

At Aston Group (formerly Aston Heating), he is responsible for evaluating all commercial projects, estimating work, and managing the account to keep track of costs. Working closely with the project management team, he is involved from the beginning of the tender stage and commissioning through to the closure of the account.

Alan Thomas says that Andrea has a crucial role to play within the business: “Andrea’s technical skills and expertise are of vital importance to many of the complex and often long-term projects we undertake for a broad range of demanding clients,” he says.

Aston Group building a brighter future

Harry joins Aston Group Apprenticeship SchemeAston Group, a leading Building Services and Facilities Management company, is supporting the continued success of its electrical division with the appointment of Harry Tomkins as a new electrical apprentice.

Harry Tomkins, who is 17 and from Chingford, is one of 11 apprentices within Aston working their way to a professional qualification. Harry is working under the guidance and supervision of an experienced team of electrical engineers and will spend most of his training at Ascham Homes, an ALMO that serves the residents of Waltham Forest. Aston has been providing mechanical and electrical servicing maintenance and repairs, as well as supporting Ascham with capital upgrade works, since 2004.

Creating job opportunities in Waltham Forest and Redbridge

Waltham Forest Jobs FairAston Group recently attended a local Jobs Fair for Waltham Forest and Redbridge to help promote the building services and maintenance industry and show people that it offers interesting and fulfilling career opportunities.

The event was organised by local MP Rt Hon. Iain Duncan Smith and was aimed at trying to support people back into work and creating opportunities for jobseekers in the borough. It proved to be very successful, receiving 1500 people through the door, who sought help and advice from Aston Group and the other 25 local employers attending the Fair.
